Paolo Frattari

Paolo Frattari (Cerveteri, 1963). Da bambino giocavo ricercando tesori tra antiche rovine. Ora scolpisco il legno alla ricerca di tesori nascosti. Ho affiancato all’attività di scultore quella di ebanista, realizzando così mobili di design. Insegno scultura e sono redattore della rivista cartacea LegnoLab. In questi anni ho fatto mostre personali e collettive. Ho partecipato a numerosi concorsi e simposi in Italia e all’estero.

Paolo Frattari (Cerveteri, 1963). Whilst playing as a child, I used to look for treasures among ancient ruins. Now I sculpt wood, looking for hidden treasures. I combined my work as a sculptor with that of a cabinetmaker, focusing on the creation of design furniture. I teach sculpture and work as an editor for LegnoLab. Over the last few years, I took part in personal or collective exhibitions, and participated in many competitions and symposiums, both in Italy and abroad.

Un volume del Corpus dei disegni Michelangelo, ormai consunto dall’uso, giace aperto sul tavolo da lavoro pieno di trucioli e di immagini di nudi contemporanei. Paolo Frattari batte ritmicamente sul legno, per liberare il corpo nascosto nelle vene della materia, una fusione d’amore, silenziosa e ostinata, tra il creatore e ciò che prende forma sotto le sue mani. Il corpo che appare non è solo osservato, ma amato, ricordato, trasformato, e infine restituito come esperienza liberata.

A volume of the Corpus of Michelangelo drawings, now worn by use, lies open on the worktable filled with shavings and images of contemporary nudes. Paolo Frattari rhythmically taps the wood, freeing the body hidden in the veins of the material, a fusion of love, silent and stubborn, between the creator and what takes shape under his hands. The body that appears is not only observed, but loved, remembered, transformed, and finally returned as a liberated experience.
