Bracciano

Art

Week

Contemporary Bloom

The second iteration of the Bracciano Art Week, held this year in the last week of May, aims to restore cultural attention given to contemporary art as reflective of today’s society. “Freedom contains love, love doesn’t contain Freedom(The Astronut) “Contemporary Bloom” interprets, in various declinations, the relationship between love and freedom through installations that are woven into the urban fabric, visual, sculptural, mixed-media, literary and sound works. Bracciano Art Week proposes a transformation of the city’s center into an exhibition space of diverse experiences, engaging the city’s historical and sacred sites in an innovative manifestation of culture. The event, along with the contributions of institutional bodies, field professionals, native and international artists, will become a touchstone of Italian contemporary art. Bracciano, strategically situated at the center of Italy, represents a natural point of attraction for visitors coming from all over the world, and enriching the already vast Roman cultural heritage. BAW was conceived to be accessible and enjoyable for a vast range of audiences.

The initiative will be supported by InsideArt, as a media partner.

Art Direction

Maria Ludmila Pustka

A Master Restorer and Head of the Vatican Museum Restoration Laboratory, where she passionately worked as a restorer for over 30 years. Roman-born, Maria has trained under her mentor and former Head of the Restoration Laboratory, Gianluigi Colalucci. Coming from a background in the Classical Study of Restoration, she specialised in Paintings, working in Naples, Padua and ultimately establishing herself in Rome. Here, under the direction of Francesco Buranelli, she was entrusted with the restoration of the entire Ciclo dei Quattrocentisti in the Sistine Chapel, with frescoes depicting Stories from the Old and New Testaments by Perugino, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, and Cosimo Rosselli, for the Jubilee Celebrations of 2000. She then directed the restoration of Pinturicchio’s Borgia Apartment, which became her passion, due to the historical themes and technical peculiarities that led her to develop innovative restoration methodologies. Materials and biotechnology thus became part of her professional background, which she directed towards sustainability. The management and methodological complexity of large-scale construction projects would then become her great challenge. These have included the restoration of the Complesso del Santuario of the Scala Santa in Rome, the Gallery of Geographical Maps, the Candelabra, the Hall of Constantine in the Raphael Rooms, and the paintings of the Vatican Pinacoteca, under the direction of Antonio Paolucci. The exclusive restoration of Michelangelo’s “Conversion of Paul” in the Pauline Chapel in the Vatican Apostolic Palace enthroned her love for art and conservation, as rooted in the transmission of the values the process conveys. These same values she believed in, are what have guided her in promoting and fostering Italian culture abroad, particularly during her time in London. The English capital nurtured her fascination with contemporary art through direct encounters with various artists and techniques. This experience carved a path for her desire to curate and promote her own events, particularly in London and in her beloved Bracciano, just outside Rome on the lake’s shore.

Massimiliano Ionta

An artist, producer and musician with over 20 years of experience in the
fields of sound and art. Massimiliano has been active since the 90s, when he founded and contributed to a multitude of projects within the Italian and
International art landscape, including brining the Italian date of Nirvana’s
“Nevermind” tour to Rome. As a founder of the International music festival,
“Emergence Festival”, in 2011 he founded the “Start Studios”, the first digital
recording studio in Italy and music production factory, boasting more than 20 years of activity, collaborating with renowned artists in the Italian music
industry. As a composer of soundtracks, he was also responsible for the
realisation of sound scoring for Piero Angela and Paco Lanciano’s “Le Domus Romanae”, “Il Foro di Augusto”, “Il Foro di Cesare” and the screening of the 3D exhibition “Wellcome to Rome” in 2010. In 2017, honing in on the theme of dematerialisation of the human being into digital consciousness, he himself became a flesh-and-blood avatar of the artist “The Astronut,” thus making his debut in the contemporary European conceptual art landscape and continuing to explore the new frontiers of digital media.

New perspectives, new stories. The stars of BAW 2026 will be revealed shortly.
