Mami Kawai, Textile-Fiber Artist, è nata a Tokyo, Giappone, e si è laureata presso la Tama Art University. Ha lavorato tra il Giappone e l’Italia, dove ha vissuto per 25 anni dal 1998 al 2022 (principalmente a Roma). Ha esposto le sue opere in tutto il mondo, in paesi come: Italia, Spagna, Germania, Ucraina, Polonia, Romania, Slovacchia, Repubblica Ceca, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Messico, Cina e Giappone.
Mami Kawai, Textile-Fiber Artist, was born in Tokyo, Japan and graduated from Tama Art University. She has worked between Japan and Italy, where she has lived – mainly in Rome – for 25 years from 1998 to 2022. “Volare”
Fin da bambina, alzavo gli occhi al cielo
e lasciavo il cuore cullarsi nel suo azzurro tenue.
Sognavo di librarmi in volo, libera, come un uccello.
Credevo che con le ali avrei potuto volare ovunque,
sfiorando il vento, attraversando le nuvole,
verso una luce che ancora non conoscevo.
Nei giorni di sogni,
nei giorni tremanti d’amore,
nelle notti bagnate di lacrime,
nelle mattine in cui stavo per arrendermi,
il cielo era sempre lì.
E anche adesso, sul soffitto di questa stanza,
vedo quel cielo che guardavo allora.

“Volare”
Ever since I was a child, I raised my eyes to the sky
and let my heart lull in its soft blue.
I dreamed of soaring, free, like a bird.
I believed that with wings I could fly anywhere,
grazing the wind, crossing the clouds,
Towards a light that I didn’t yet know.
In the days of dreams,
in the days trembling with love,
in the nights bathed in tears,
in the mornings when I was about to give up,
the sky was always there.
And even now, on the ceiling of this room,
I see that sky I gazed at then.
